Text-to-speech voices have been added to the Windows operating system starting from Windows Vista. In Windows Vista and 7, Anna was introduced. David, Zira, and Hazel were introduced in Windows 8 and 8.1. Other voices were also added in Windows 10, which you will see later in this article. There are many advantages and uses of the text-to-speech option:
- The text-to-speech option is very useful for users who find it difficult to read from the computer screen. It can read text aloud for the user.
- This option is also useful for multitasking. Your computer can read texts to you while you are doing other things.
- It can also help you learn the pronunciations of words you are not familiar with.

- After you have edited the document, you should save and exit Notepad; then you need to import the file back to the Windows registry. To do this, run the file. For the changes to take effect, you need to restart your computer. Note that your user account should have administrative privileges for this process to work normally.
- Once your PC is restarted, you will be able to select the desired voice from your Speech settings.
Pro tip: Windows users often notice a decrease in the performance of their computer after a long period of use. This problem can manifest as longer startup times; applications can be slow to respond, etc. After long periods of use, junk files accumulate in your system and cause it to slow down, and also occupy space. These junk files easily fall prey to invading viruses which can cause harm to your system. To fix this, we recommend that you download and install Auslogics BoostSpeed. This tool will delete all the junk files and also disable all the background apps which are draining your computer’s resources. Your PC will be able to run normally without lagging, after using this tool.
