Use the following steps to create a new user account:
- First, click on the Start or Home button and select the gear icon to open the Settings app.
- Navigate to the Accounts tile and click on it.
- In the Accounts window, you will see the account you are currently using. Now, go down and select Family and other users.
- Microsoft does allow users to create a family account. It’s primarily for people who want to monitor children’s actions on the computer or for kids.
- If you’re just looking to make a local user account, which is what most people are familiar with, you should left-click on Add someone else to this PC under the Other users
- Now, you would be prompted with the option to add a user with a Microsoft account. So, if you already have another Microsoft email that you are using, then we can insert it in the box and click Next.
- If you do not have another email or you’re just looking to create a local account without using a Microsoft email, you can just go down to the bottom of the window and left-click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
- So, once you click on that, you can create a Microsoft account by providing your credentials.
- Also, if you do not want a Microsoft account, you could go down to the bottom of the window and click on Add user without a Microsoft account, which is just a local account.
- At this point, you would just insert the user’s information. If you want to make the account secure, then you should add a password. Once this is done, click Next.
- Now, the account is already created. If you want to log into the new account you created, you need to sign out of the current one.
- Go to the Start or Home menu and click on the Power button, then select Sign out.
- One the Microsoft welcome page, you will see the new account you created, click on it to log in.
You can also create a new user account, using the Command Prompt
This method is fast and easy. To do this, use the following instructions:
- Right-click on the Start or Home button and select Command Prompt (Admin) from the pop-up menu. This is to open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Once the Command Prompt window is opened, input the following command: net username password /ADD. Note that you need to replace ‘username’ and ‘password’ with the login ID and password of your choice. For example, the command line will look like this: net John c67ftu /ADD; then press Enter.
- Close the Command Prompt window and log out of your current account.

Now that your new account is created, you need to transfer all your information from the old account to the new one.
You can do this using the following instructions:
- First, go into the old account and open the folder you want to copy to the new account.
- Select all the files in the folder, right-click on them and select Copy.
- Now, navigate to This PC > Local Disk (C) > Users > {new user account} > Documents. Paste the files you copied in the Documents folder. You should follow this process for all the files you want to copy.
