Consent.exe is part of the User Account Control (UAC) feature in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The UAC feature was designed to prevent unauthorised access to Windows features and options that require administrative privileges. Based on the user’s preference, UAC allows or disallows access to administrative functions in Windows.

How to Disable UAC in Windows Vista

In theory, UAC in Windows Vista could be useful. However, some users find that UAC decreases their productivity and doesn’t allow them to perform the tasks they need to perform. Luckily, UAC can be easily disabled. Here is how:

1. Click on Start and open the Control Panel
2. Go to User Accounts and Family Safety and click on Add or remove user accounts
3. Click on the Guest User account or any other account of your choice
4. Under the account, click on the Go to the main User Accounts page link
5. Click on the Change security settings link under Make changes to your user account
6. Under Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure, uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
7. Click OK and reboot your computer
