What is install.exe?
The install.exe process is a MYTH Installer. It could also belong to a number of advertising programs.
Install.exe is a hidden file. It’s usually located in the %DOCS_SETTINGS% sub-folder and its usual size is 303,088 bytes.
The install.exe file is part of installers released by Myth group. Myth was a warez group that existed between 2000 and 2005. The group focused on ripping and cracking PC games. In addition to releasing ripped games, the group used to release cracked game updates and trainers. In June 2005 Myth was one of the FBI “Operation Site Down” targets. After the incident, Myth made no further releases and entered hibernation in October 2005.
Install.exe can also be a process belonging to various advertising programs. Advertising programs monitor users’ browsing habits and send the collected data for analysis to third party. If you know that install.exe is run by adware, the install.exe process should be terminated via the Task Manager and the advertising program that is running the process should be removed. In addition to that, it’s recommended to scan your computer with reliable antivirus software.
