What is lame_enc.dll?

Lame_enc.dll is a high quality MPEG Audio Layer III (MP3) encoder licensed under the LGPL (Lesser General Public License). It is a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file used by Audacity (a free audio editing and conversion software) to convert .wav files to MP3.

When a user tries to convert a .wav file into an MP3 file using Audacity, the program will ask the location of the lame_enc.dll file. Because of software patents, Audacity doesn’t provide a built-in converter. Users will need to download and install the free LAME encoder to export MP3 files with Audacity.
