How to Fix SearchFilterHost.exe High CPU Usage
SearchFilterHost.exe is known to consume excessive CPU and cause up to 100% overall CPU usage on computers running Windows Vista. This problem can be fixed in two ways: a) disable the indexing of .xml files; b) disable indexing altogether if you don’t use Windows Search.
To disable the indexing of .xml files:
- Click on Start and go to the Control Panel
- Open Indexing Options and go to the Modify tab
- Exclude .xml files and click OK
To disable indexing:
- Click on Start and type services.msc in the Search bar. Hit Enter
- Locate the Windows Search service, right-click on it and go to Properties
- Select Disabled in the Startup type dropdown box
- Click Apply, then click OK and reboot your computer
