The zcdgsvc.exe process is installed together with Intel’s networking products. ZeroCfgSvc MFC Application runs on all Windows versions and belongs to Intel ProSET utility set. The ZeroCfgSvc MFC Application is installed together with the drivers for Intel wireless network cards and chips.
The zcfgsvc.exe process provides background support for Intel ProSET utilities, which let you configure your wireless connection by clicking on the Intel ProSET icon in the system tray. The ProSET icon also provides wireless connection status information.
How to Fix zcfgsvc.exe 100% CPU Usage
Sometimes the zcfgsvc.exe process gets stuck at 100% CPU usage and even freezes your computer. This usually happens either if your wireless driver is outdated or if the Intel ProSET utility isn’t installed correctly. To fix this issue, go to the Intel website and update your wireless driver. If that doesn’t help, click on Start, go to the Control Panel – Add or Remove Programs and run a repair on the install.
You can disable zcfgsvc.exe via the Task Manager. However, doing that will cause you to lose your wireless connection. To avoid this and use the Windows default wireless connectivity utility instead, do the following:
- Click on Start and go to the Control Panel
- Double click on Network Connections
- Right-click on your wireless adaptor and go to Properties
- Go to the Wireless Network tab and check the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings checkbox
- Click OK
Now your computer will be using the Windows default wireless configuration utility, so that you can permanently disable zcfgsvc.exe.
